Taking a nap in the sunlight

Nana with Addison

Paul's family came to visit (Paul's brother, David, couldn't make it...
He's in Morocco with the Peace Corp, but he is with us in spirit!)
Paul's mother will be called "Nana" and his father will be "Grandpa".

Addison is doing well, she still sleeps about 2 hours at a time and
feeds about every 2 to 3 hours.

Birth Announcement Pictures

Here are a few pictures we were debating on using for Addison's birth announcement. We chose the last two pictures. I can't believe how fast she's growing!

Doctor Appt

We took Addison to the doctor today for her second check up and weight
check. She has grown a lot! The doctor's exact words were "wow". She
is now 8 lbs 9 oz. She loves taking naps... The perfect way to put on
weight after eating.

Addison's Artwork

Addison loves daddy so much that she used his shirt as a personal
canvas... How sweet.

Hanging out at home

Carrie's visit

Carrie came to see Addison today, she is having a boy due in November!
She did a great job holding our little one.

SweetPeace

Aunt Cyndi stopped by yesterday to visit. We had Addison I'm the
SweetPeace baby swing, which is awesome. It swings back and forth in
a motion that simulates rocking the baby in your arms. Addison loves
it and goes to sleep immediately.

Addison and Gigi

We are home and Addison is resting with Gigi Morrelli. Mandy is
getting a well deserved nap.

Waiting

Still at the hospital waiting... And waiting to go home. Busy day
today I guess.

Feeding time

The last 2 nights were pretty brutal. Unbekownst to us, Addison was
in a "cluster feeding" mode. Basically, by the time we fed her,
burped her, changed her and swaddled her, she was hungry again! That
led to a never ending cycle with zero sleep - exhausting for her and
us. One of the clinical assistants told us that she was getting food
from Mandy to meet her nutriitional needs, but not enough to feel
full. So we supplemented with formula and that did the trick! She
got real full and knocked out right away. We finally got a few hours
of rest.

Today we head home from the hospital; pics to follow!

Bundled up

After one day we have discovered that Addison loves swaddles, milk,
pacifiers, and sleeping!

There were some worries about her temperature today and they took some
blood to run tests but by thee end of the day she was back to normal -
false alarm!

Meanwhile, Dad has gotten really good at changing diapers and wrapping
swaddle blankets, Mom is good at feeding and rocking her to sleep.

We are happy to report everyone is in good spirits and health!

Addison update

Addison is doing well! Breastfeeding like a champ and loves to be
swaddled.

In recovery

After Addison was born she and I went to the nursury for checkup and a
bath. During that time Mandy was getting cleaned up. Then they moved
us up to the post-partum recovery room. The dr had sent everyone home
already and Kelly and Tracy were the only one's who had made their way
back. They helped us up to the recovery room and I wheeled Addison up
on the cart. Then I got Mandy settled and went out to get some bfast
tacos at taco shack. We ate them while Addie slept, then Mandy fed
her and then we took a needed nap until 10:30 when people started
showing up.

If you're wanting to come by, feel free, just call me first for
directions and to make sure there is room! 512-825-7203.

8 cm

We're at 8 cm... Almost there!

Birth weight and length

Gay started this poll also...place your bets!

Antibiotic and oxygen

Because of the temperature they just gave Mandy an antibiotic and put
her on oxygen to make sure the baby is getting enough.

The Dr is coming back in to do a dilation check around 11:15 and we
expect Mandybto be further along mow. She is really feeling pressure
during all of the contractions.

Ice chips

Ice chips are very important! They are really all that Mandy can eat
during labor. So I have been making trips to the ice machine every so
often to refill them for her.

They just took her temperature at 100.1, which they don't like because
it makes the baby's heart beat too fast. The nurse is notifying the
doctor although they may not do anything since Addison's heart rate is
still in the "normal" range.

Also Gay wanted me to mention that Pete is at the lake and will be
coming in tomorrow!

Fresh coffee

Dad is keeping the coffee stocked...

More drugs

Mandy was still feeling sick, so they are trying a different
medicine. Hopefully this will work better/faster/longer...

Pool

Gay started a pool for the birth date and time. Add your own here! I
took 12:43 am tomorrow.

Much more frequent

Contractions are getting much more frequent now. You can see on the
photo (right hand side) the contractions coming every 60-80 seconds.

Mandy is sleeping now; saving energy to push soon! I am very proud of
her, she has been brave and is doing a great job!

Halfway there!

Mandy is now 5-6 cm, still fully effaced, -2 position. They've upped
her pitocin dose from 4 to 8 to 10 and we are moving along on schedule!

Now the question - will Addison be 8/6/08 or 8/7/08?

Food

My wonderful sister brought me some food from EZ's. Now that my tank
is full, back to the updates!

Cyndi is excited

My sister is happy to be here

The Young's are here!

Nausea

They're going to give Mandy some medication for nausea soon.

Dilation update

Mandy is up to 4 cm, 100% effaced, -2 position. The Dr. says that the
first 5cm are slowest, the last 5 the fastest.

Blankets

Our room is FREEZING. I went to get blankets from the nurse and they
keep them in a big warmer. The nurse in this picture just looked at
me and said "mmmmmmm hmmmmmmm!" when I asked for blankets.

Nervous Dad!

Mandy snapped this photo of me. Mandy is having regular contractions
every 2 minutes. They haven't been back to check her dilation for
awhile, apparently they don't check often because of infection risks.

Baby heart monitor

They have Mandy hooked up to all kinds of contraptions. This one
measures her contractions and she has another that listens to
Addison's heartbeat. They have it playing in the background and it's
soothing...

Still waiting

The nurse has been in and out a few times and we are just in waiting
mode now. The nurse just brought olive oil to make things slide
easier (later). Kelly is entertaining Gay with iphone games. Mandy
is watching tv and is in good spirits.

Upping the pitocin

Everything is ok but the nurse just upped Mandy dose of pitocin. That
is the drug that induces labor. Mandy was going really fast on
contractions before the epidural (every 90-120 seconds), but the
contractions were too short in duration. Then the contractions slowed
down a lot... So the nurse upped the drug to try and even everything
out.

Sent from my iPhone

The gang is here

Kelly, Tracy, Gay and myself are all here. Mandy is much happier on
the drugs and they gave her oxygen for a few minutes because the
epidural lowered her blood pressure and made her feel sick. We are in
waiting mode Now. It could be hours or minutes. They will recheck
dilation again soon.

Birth certificate

The hospital already has all the paperwork ready.

Contractions

Contractions are coming regularly. Mandy is at 2cm dialated.

Gay looks nervous

Everything is going to be ok!

Hi!!!

Mandy just got her epidural and is feeling no pain!

We're here

Just a quick update... We are here at the hospital and everything is ok!

Quick Update

I forgot to update our information from my last doctor's appointment (last Tuesday). Not too big of a change... I am now a little over 38 weeks, one "solid" cm (from a fingertip cm last week), 75% effaced, and she has moved down a little more (-1 station). I know that you can walk around for a very long time being dilated, and it really is no indication of when you will actually have the baby... but it's still fun to know!

So... on that note please send positive thoughts that little Addie will be obedient and stay where she is until after Paul starts work on the 4th!

My next appointment is on Wednesday the 6th.
