Christmas 2010

Christmas 2010 was a fun and very busy time. We took Addie and Jack to see Christmas lights a few nights before Christmas and they loved them! We loved them so much that we went back to see them again with Addie's friend, Rissa. (Plus, the first time we went Addie accidentally touched a very hot light and burned her finger a little... so we wanted to go again without the burn part.) Addison kept saying to Rissa "Don't touch the lights, Rissa!" and Rissa would respond, "You might get burned!" Here are some pictures from the trip.






We made a special request for Santa to come early to the Young house so we could do Christmas day in San Antonio with Paul's family. Santa was a very nice guy this year... he left Addie and Jack lots of new toys! Kelly and Tracy came over early in the morning to watch all the action and we got some pictures... mostly of Addie and Jack opening presents. The kids got a train/city table which was set up in the living room. Addie's new "passion" right now is "Yo Gabba Gabba" and she was SO excited to get a Brobee doll. She also loved her little toys and candy in her stocking. Addison was an excellent big sister and opened Jack's presents for him!




Addie opened the gift she wrapped and gave to Jack... a Vuli Giraffe! He loves it. He especially loves the squeaker it has and laughs when Addie squeaks it for him.

On Christmas day, we drove down to San Antonio to spend time with Paul's family.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera out and ready ... so I didn't get many pictures. Fortunately for us, Cyndi had her camera out and got some great shots! I will post the ones I got from her. I will post more when I can!

The day after Christmas we drove up to Liberty Hill to see my parents. Nick and Jana were in town from Seattle too! It was great to see everyone. Again... I didn't have my camera out... so I only got a few shots. It's getting harder and harder to manage two kids and the camera.

Big Hospital Scare

On Monday, Jack's school called me to let me know he had a fever of 101.8. Luckily, I was on my way there when they called.... Unluckily, it was late in the day and when I called the doctor they said there were no more spots open for that day. Jack was congested for a few days before all of this and had a horse voice. He was also having trouble breathing and just sounded and looked horrible. The doctor's office told me that if Jack's temperature was over 101 by the time I got him home then to go ahead and take him to the ER.

When I got home, his temperature was 101.6. Thank goodness Paul was home! He took Jack to the ER while I got Addie ready for bed. At the ER near our house, Jack was tested for RSV and it was negative (YAY!). Addison caught RSV when she was about Jack's age and it was very scary! However, the ER wanted to send him by ambulance over to Dell Children's Hospital so they could observe him that night due to his fever and breathing. Poor Jack, he couldn't even cry... he just sounded like an old man coughing with no breath. Before Jack could be transferred over to Dell Children's he was suppose to get an IV. They stuck him 5 times!! And they still couldn't get an IV in him (probably because he was dehydrated). They finally just transferred him over by ambulance without the IV. I called Kelly, and she immediately volunteered to come over to the house and stay with Addie so Paul and I could both go to the hospital. I love my family.

When Paul and I got there, they finally let us feed Jack. They had given him a few nebulizer treatments and he got some sleep. By the next morning, Jack was doing very well. He was smiling, eating, but still sounded pretty bad. After several doctors came in to check on him and asked lots of questions they let us go home. The doctors said that Jack probably had a virus and bronchitis, but at such a young age they had to be extra careful. I'm SO thankful that the scare is over! He is doing great now and even slept 10 hours last night!!!

I am very happy and thankful that we have family that live close by, Paul was home, and Jack is feeling much better. I am OVER JOYED that he slept 10 hours last night. I really hope he does it again, and again... oh and again!

Jack - 12 weeks!

Jack is now 12 weeks old and still such a sweet boy... cuddly, happy, cute as can be... but needs to SLEEP MORE! He has had a few nights where he slept 6 hours, but most of the time he is still sleeping about 3 to 4 hours at a time. I don't like to complain, but come on! I have to start work next week and I don't want to have to stumble into work with sleep in my eye and pillow marks still on my face. He had his "2 month appointment" when he was almost 11 weeks and weighed 12 pounds 13 ounces which is average for his age. His height was 23.5 inches ... I believe... lack of sleep has compromised my memory... which is 15% (shorter than average). With Addison being such a large baby so fast it's been nice to have him still in 3 month clothes.

Addison has been an excellent big sister. She loves to cuddle with Jack, talk to him, sing to him, and always wants to know where he is. Her favorite song to sing recently is the "Do Re Mi" song from "Sound of Music." She knows all the words and loves to sing "Sound of Music" before she goes to bed and when she wakes up in the morning. Addison loves to play with people and is very social. I cannot wait for Jack to be bigger so they can play together. I think having two will eventually make things easier! It will be awesome when they both sleep all night and play together... it will be like having a little of my own time back!

Of course I love when Paul is home, but now I appreciate it more than ever. I have always looked up to single parents, but now I have a much bigger admiration for them. It is getting better. Jack is getting on a schedule and Addison is making it through this transition very well. I am so very thankful for my family!

LLOOoong Weekend

Wow, this weekend has been filled with lots of crying, screaming, standoffs, timeouts, and ATTITUDE. Wednesday, the Binki Fairy came and took all of Addison's binkis and left her a playhouse and slide that she found on craigslist! Addie loves the new outside toys and played on them all Wednesday evening. It just so happened... that Addie spiked a fever the next morning. I kept her home from school. Jack was also feeling a bit warm and had a temperature so I went ahead and made an appointment at the doctor's office for both of them.

So, now the Binki Fairy took the all the binkis and Addison felt very sick. At the doctor's office she had a temperature of 102.8 and had a positive strep test. Jack had a 99.8 temperature, but otherwise looked ok, he just had some trouble sleeping. This combined with Paul being in California and then Colorado until late Saturday night...made for a very long weekend. I have never seen Addison SO oppositional. She was home for four full days in an extremely bad mood. She fought with everything, she would scream and when I told her to stop she would look me straight in the eye and scream even louder. She demanded cupcakes after seeing them on her PJs and when I told her we didn't have any cupcakes, she screamed "I don't like you mommy!" and hit me in the leg! Everything was a fight... which led up to a category "5" (on a hurricane scale) meltdown on Friday night. I seriously thought Addison may puke from her massive tantrum... I felt so bad for her. Poor girl, a new baby brother, dad is gone, she feels sick, and now all of her binkis are gone!

I did the worst thing you could do especially as a person who calls herself a "specialist" in behavior. I told Addie that Jack would let her borrow his binki (because the Binki Fairy doesn't take binkis from babies ... only big girls). Well, at least it calmed her down. There is only so much a two year old can deal with in one weekend. I decided we might as well change the one thing we can control and give her something to help soothe herself. She did better, with the binki... but if this "terrible two" is not even close to the "horrible threes" and only a taste of what puberty will be like... I think we better stop having kids!

Jack just rolled over from his tummy to his back! It may have been on accident, but still very cool. He's pretty strong!

Jack's 8 Week Update

Jack is 8 weeks old, and such a sweet boy... here's an update:

- Jack eats about 3 to 4 ounces every two to four hours.

- He takes about 3 or 4 naps a day, but is not on a certain routine yet. Some days he sleeps 20 to 30 minutes at a time and other days an hour or 2. The last couple of days he has had at least one nap that was over an hour.

- At night the longest Jack has slept is 4 hours. On good nights he sleeps from 9 to 1 am and then is up at 4 am, 6 am and then up at about 7:30 for a little while. I think he has had some tummy issues this week so we had some pretty rough nights with him up after 3 hours and then every other hour all night... Thank goodness I can drive up to my parents house for a nap. During the week, Paul is out traveling for work so I'm doing all the night feedings. It can be tough, but Paul helps out a lot when he gets home on the weekends.

- Jack is really pretty strong! He can hold his head up on the boppy when on his tummy and likes to look around by himself when we hold him on our shoulders. If that continues, he'll probably roll over a little early.

- Jack is starting to turn his head and smile at Paul, Addison, and me. He definitely notices you when you smile or talk to him. I really think he likes to hear Addie "talk" to him. She babbles and sings and gives him kisses and hugs often. In the car, Addison will say "It's ok Bubba! We're almost home." when he starts to fuss in his car seat... I got a video of it because I thought it was so cute!

- He certainly loves to be held and the best way to calm him is to wrap him up and swing him on his side under the ceiling fan while "ssshhh" - ing. Jack is not very fussy at all... a VERY good baby. It seems like the only time he does get fussy is when he has gas or right before he falls asleep, but it usually isn't for very long.

- Knock on wood... before and after I say this ... It doesn't seem like he has acid reflux like Addison did! Thank goodness! Poor Addie would yell and fuss all day with acid reflux until we got her on some medicine... This time has not nearly been as stressful!

- Thank goodness for the Fisher Price Rock 'N Play Newborn Sleeper! It's AWESOME... I really wish they had it available when Addie was a newborn! It would have been perfect for acid reflux! I just got it for him last night and Jack fell asleep in it right away and I didn't hear a peep for a little over 4 hours. YES! I highly recommend it for newborns. I wish I got it when Jack was born, but I just read about it recently.

- He is a cuddler... and we really love to snuggle with him!

Jack has his two month doctor appointment next Friday. I am curious to see how much he weighs and all of his stats!

Halloween!

Addison dressed up as "Wonder Woman" went trick or treating with Paul, Kelly and Tracy for Halloween, while I stayed home with Jack... whom we dressed as a "Jack - O - Lantern" - Thanks Rebecca for that idea! Addison got some very good use out of her Halloween outfit, and wore it to a birthday party, to school, and trick or treating. I didn't get pictures of Addie trick or treating, but Kelly did and I will upload them once I get them from her. Apparently, Addison LOVED trick or treating. She would knock on the door say "Trick or Treat" and "Happy Halloween" and "Thank You" then would walk away from the house and say "I go trick or treating!" Kelly got some video of her doing this which I will also upload later because it's pretty cute. Addison still asks to go trick or treating and must have thought it was pretty cool that it was dark outside because that is what she keeps telling me. "I go trick or treating! It's dark outside!"
