Addison is starting to get better at tummy time!

Doing Better!

Addison has been doing great the last couple of days! She seems to be
responding well to the Prevacid. She has been taking it for about 5
days, and we started seeing improvement 2 days ago.

She slept 10 hours last night!!! I couldn't believe it. I had to check
on her twice, just to make sure she was ok! She is napping so much
better now too.

Third Time's a Charm?

Ok, one more time back to the doctor... Addison was having a really hard time getting down the Zantac, it tastes disgusting. Yes, I tried it. So, after spitting it up for two days she went back to being in a lot of pain. She also wouldn't eat more than an ounce at a feeding and we had difficulty getting her to take the ounce of food! I could tell she was hungry... but didn't want to eat. Poor baby. A baby her size can usually eat about 34 oz a day... she was eating maybe 8 to 12 oz a day, and spitting up some when she choked down the Zantac.

The doctor decided to do a barium swallow on her in order to determine if her stomach and esophagus are both working properly. She did excellent and the x-rays showed that she had no abnormalities, but pretty bad reflux. So, now she is on Prevacid to help with her reflux. The doctor said that most babies have success on Prevacid. Hopefully she gets some relief! Her auntie Cyndi came with us to the barium swallow test and gave us... really me... some great moral support. I feel truly blessed to have such wonderful family live so close. Thanks Cyndi!

We will keep you updated! I really think this will help her. She is getting SO FUN, I can't wait to see what she is like when she isn't in pain!

Addison Laughing at Daddy

Right before I broke out the camera, Addison was full on laughing at her daddy... I caught the end of it. So cute.

I think she is feeling much better with her medication and different formula. She sometimes has heartburn, but when we give her some Maalox she feels much better. The Zantac is hard for her to get down, but it seems to be helping! She is much happier today!

Back to the Doc We Go

So after a horrible night last night of Addison arching her back, crying, stiffening her legs, refusing to eat (prior she had NO difficulty gulping down food), and having difficulty falling asleep. Paul and I gave her some Maalox, lifted her crib so that it was angled, and gave her lots of hugs and kisses. She finally fell asleep and I decided to call the doctor first thing the next morning.

Addison can be a little fussy at night, but nothing like she has in the past week or so. Plus, she was spitting up and having gurgly wet burps and hiccups. So, back to the doc we went today. He diagnosed her with GERD, which is basically acid reflux. He prescribed some Zantac and recommended putting a little rice cereal in her bottle (to help keep the formula down). He said that the Zantac takes about 3 days to start really helping. So we will keep Addie on the Maalox if she needs it. I gave her a bottle with some rice cereal today and she actually wanted to keep eating. Also, she actually went down for her nap with no problems. I'm so excited that I can see a difference already with just the cereal. I hope this helps her, it's hard to see your baby in so much pain!

Red Hair?

I want Addison to have red hair, and I imagined that when she was born she'd have thick, luxurious, locks of red curls... ha ha ha. She came out almost bald with a little brown hair, but still gorgeous of course.

In the sunlight and in the last few pictures we have taken (check out the bath time pics too), I think I can see red hair. You really can't see anything sitting inside. I don't think that someone would stop me while on a walk with Addison and say "oh what beautiful red hair", but I think she is going to eventually have red hair. Am I imagining things?! Does anyone else agree?

2 Month Doctor Appointment

Addison had her 2 month doctor's appointment today and it went very well.

We have a big baby on our hands! She weighed in at 13 lbs 5 oz and 24 inches long! She was in the 95th percentile for both weight and height. So, at least she is perfectly proportioned. The doctor said she looked like she was a 4 month old, but very healthy. She had to have 3 of her 5 vaccinations (it was sad), and will get the other two in 2 weeks. She cried during the shots but fell asleep before we could get out of the doctor's office. I gave her Tylenol before the appointment so I hope that helped!

We also asked about her fussiness at night. This week she has been much... much... more fussy at night and it takes us a good 3 hours (and last night it took about 4 hours) to get her to go to sleep at night. I know she is SO tired, but she just won't go to sleep and continues to grunt, fuss and sometimes cry. I thought she might have reflux or something because she just stopped eating very much and would cry most during and right after eating. The doc told us to change her formula to Similac Alimentum and give her 1 mL of Maalox with each feeding (up to 6 times per day) and see how she does. We fed her (with some Maalox) and gave her a bath and she fell asleep pretty quick. I hope this lasts and isn't a fluke from the vaccines she had. Hopefully, she will feel better on the new formula and the Maalox will do the trick!

8 Week Update

Addison is now 8 weeks old and doing great. Here is an update:

- She is eating about 3 to 5 ounces (sometimes 6!) at each feeding which is anywhere from 2 and a half to 4 hours apart.

- She takes about 2 long naps and one short nap during the day. (one long one in the morning and right after lunch and a short one ... sometimes in the evening)

- At about 6:30 pm she starts to get a little fussy, but she's not a big crier. She is usually fussy and has a difficult time settling until about 10:00 pm. However, after she falls asleep between 10 and 10:30 she usually sleeps about 5 hours.

- Two nights ago she slept 6 hours and last night she slept 7 and a half hours for the first time!! I really hope this continues.

- She is a big grunter and a very loud sleeper! She laughs, sighs, grunts, coos, and sometimes cries in her sleep. We had to move her to her own room already... she was TOO loud.

- She absolutely loves the ceiling fan and laughs and smiles at it more than her parents!

- She holds her head up while looking over my shoulder very well, but has more issues lifting it while doing tummy time. (Many times she just likes to lay on her tummy and not lift her head)

- She likes to sit in her bouncy lounger and look around her nursery, and I think she likes Motown and R&B soul music ... at least she seems happy when it's playing.

Addie has her two month doctor's appointment next Thursday and I'm hoping the doc says she's doing well. I think she is a pretty big baby! ... but doing great, so I'm not too worried. Here she is in her bouncer... (her daddy put on her socks after giving her a bath last night... so cute).
